Ewanna “Joann” Sydor, 91, Keyser Valley section of West Scranton, passed away Tuesday night at home, surrounded by her family. Her husband of 59 years, Stefan Sydor died in 2006. Born in Berezhany, Ukraine, she was the daughter of the late Constantin and Michalena Boyko. She was a survivor of WW II, emigrating from Germany, arriving at Ellis Island in 1949, then settling in Scranton with her husband Stefan. Ewanna worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry and was a member of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church. She is survived by one son, Myron Sydor, Scranton, two daughters, Linda Gerrity and husband William, Dalton, Elaine Madus and husband Joseph, Clarks Summit. Six grandchildren, Nicole Sydor, Kristen Lininger and husband Thomas, Ryan Gerrity and fiancée Erika Bolus, William Gerrity, Joseph Madus Jr. and fiancée Jennifer Twist, Ashley Madus, two great grandchildren, Makenzie and Jacoby Lininger, one sister, Olga Boyko, Winnipeg, Canada and one nephew, Terrence Boyko, Canada. She was preceded in death by several siblings in Europe. Her funeral will be on Friday, beginning at 9:15 from the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton, with a Funeral Divine Liturgy at 10 am in St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, 430 N. 7th Avenue, Scranton. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Minooka. Viewing for family and friends will be today (Thursday) 4 to 6:30 pm. Parastas Services will follow visitation hours.
