Helen M. Herman Lalus, 89, of Scranton, died Saturday after a long illness. She was the widow of her first husband John J. Herman Sr., and second husband Peter Lalus. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Leokadia Tubelewicz Ostromecki. Educated in Scranton Schools, she had been a member of Holy Rosary Church at Mary Mother of God Parish and retired from Haddon Craftsmen of Scranton. Helen died peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Helen was a woman who gave from her heart, never wanting anything in return. She will lovingly be missed by her family, friends and the many people she came to meet throughout her lifetime. She also enjoyed crocheting, plastic craft, going to the casino and most of all bingo. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Snedeker, South Abington Twp., two sons, William and Charles Herman, both of Scranton, 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Rovinski, Kathleen Perry, Cyndi Myers, Jennifer Herman, Julie Gowat, Johnny Herman, Patrick John Snedeker, Danielle Snedeker, Joseph Herman and Molly Herman, 12 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sons, John J. “Jackie” Herman, David Herman, one sister, Sarah Balko, four brothers, Walter, Anthony, Stanley and Edmund Ostromecki, one step daughter, Gail Norkaitis. Helen’s family extends a special thank you to the entire staff of the Scranton Health Care Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart. Blessing Services will be at 3:30 pm on Tuesday by the Rev. Cyril Edwards, Pastor of Mary Mother of God Parish, followed by a viewing for family and friends, 4 to 7 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred for Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St., Dunmore, PA 18510.
