Helen Plishka, 99, formerly of Scranton, died on Sunday, in Onancock, Virginia. Her husband Peter Plishka Sr., died in 1990. Born in Old Forge, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Czerkas Patrician. Educated in Old Forge Schools, she worked as a machine operator in the local garment industry. Helen was a member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, West Scranton and of the ILGWU. She is survived by one son, Paul P. Plishka and wife Sharon of Wilmington, NC, two grandsons, Nicola and Jeffrey Plishka, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Paul Plishka Jr., one sister, Eve Krauer, one brother, John Patrician and seven additional child siblings. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 am, in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton by the Very Rev. Nestor S. Kowal, Pastor Emeritus of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Taylor. Viewing for family and friends will be on Thursday, 6 to 8 pm. A Panachyda Service will be held at 7:30 pm.
