James T. Vancosky

James T. Vancosky, 84, of Moosic, passed on Friday morning with his family at his side. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Anthony and Catherine Evansew Vancosky. His wife of 60 years is Marjorie “Margie” Smith. He was a 1957 graduate of West Scranton Senior High School and retired from Keystone Coca-Cola after 24 years. James proudly served his country in the Marines as well as 18 years in the Army Reserves, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of the American Ukrainian Veterans where he served as Secretary and was a lifetime member of Kosciuszko American Legion Post 207, N.E. Detachment Marine Corps League, and the NRA. James gave blood through the American Red Cross where he donated over 9 gallons. He is also survived by a son Anthony Vancosky, Lake Ariel, two sisters Catherine Haluszka and Anne Vancosky RNP., and three grandchildren. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one son James Vancosky Jr.; 1 brother, Michael Vancosky KIA in Vietnam, brother-in-law, Walter Smith KIA in Vietnam. Viewing for family and friends will be on Wednesday, 4 to 7 pm, in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton. Kosciuszko American Legion Post 207 will accord honors at 6:30 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am in SS Peter & Paul R. C. Church, 1309 West Locust Street, West Scranton. Interment will follow in the parish Cemetery with full Military Honors accorded.

Viewing for family and friends will be on Wednesday, 4 to 7 pm, in the Funeral Home,

Kosciuszko American Legion Post 207 will accord honors at 6:30 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am in SS Peter & Paul R. C. Church, 1309 West Locust Street, West Scranton.

Interment will follow in the parish Cemetery with full Military Honors accorded.
