Joan M. Hummel, 83, of Scranton, died Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Diane, after an extended illness. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Marie Bird. Fashouer. Joan was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a member of the former St. John the Evangelist Church, South Scranton and retired from the Bee Witching Boutique. She leaves behind one son, Paul Hummel and wife, Gail, two daughters, Joan (Joanie) Hummel, Diane Bray and husband Arthur, all of Scranton. Five grandchildren, Lisa Rosencrance and husband Clyde, Kelly Hummel, Michael Hummel, Arthur J. Bray and Robert Bray, several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three siblings, William and John Fashouer and Ruth Stine. As per Joan’s wishes, there were no calling hours and private graveside services officiated by Rev. Deacon Carmine Mendicino were held on Monday in Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Township. Joan’s family wishes to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli and the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their kind and compassionate care they gave to their Mom. Arrangements were under the care and direction of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, West Scranton.
