Joseph J. Brudzinski, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away on October 2, 2023.  A member of the Greatest Generation, Joe was just shy of his 99th birthday.  Joe was the son of the late Charles and Rose Brudzinski.  He was proceeded in death by his wife of 50 years, Anne Sahayda Brudzinski.

Joe served in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in France during World War II.  Joe attended the University of Scranton, where he studied business.   He was retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot, where he worked as a Property Book Officer and Supervisor of General Supply.

Joe believed in service to others. As a member of St. Mary’s Church, he was president of their Holy Name Society, captain of the Ushers Club, a scoutmaster of their Boy Scout troop, and a long time worker in the church center.  He was a gold member of the Polish Progressive Club, a director of the Pine Brook Branch of the Scranton Housing Authority, and a treasurer of the Pine Brook Neighborhood Association. Joe was always there to help a neighbor in need. During his later life, he volunteered in the community store at his residence, and raised funds for Alzheimer’s awareness.

Joe was always active. He loved doing home repairs and caring for his beautiful garden. He also loved a good car. Every week he’d dine out with his wife Anne, and he’d enjoy a vodka martini or scotch and soda. Joe was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and was thrilled when they won the World Series in 2018.  His sense of humor, and his resilience will be missed by his daughter, family and friends.

Joe is survived by his daughter Karen Leonard, and son-in law Peter Leonard, his grandson Patrick Leonard and his wife Amanda Peden, and a great-granddaughter, June.  Also surviving are his niece Mary Kay Goddard, who he thought of as his second daughter, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  He was preceded in death by 6 siblings, Walter, Stella, John, Edward, Benjamin, and Adolph.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caring staff of Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Clarks Summit Senior Living.
