Joseph Prislupsky

Joseph J. Prislupsky, 87, of West Scranton, passed away on Sunday afternoon at home with his family at his side. His wife of 64 years is Janet Townsend Prislupsky. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Paul and Edith Zuby Prislupsky. Joe was a graduate of Taylor High School and Lackawanna Business College. He was a career veteran of the United States Air Force having served as a Master Sergeant. Joe was a 22-year career airman, a 20-year employee of Tobyhanna Army Depot and retired lastly from Moses-Taylor Hospital. He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, the Ukrainian American Veterans of Lackawanna County, and the McHugh-Bushweiler VFW Post 3474 of Dunmore. Joe was a man dedicated to providing for his family and to many seemed like a workaholic. He lived for his family and tended to all their needs.

Joe is survived along with his wife Janet, their daughter, Sandra Mattern, Lake Winola, granddaughters; Jozette Mattern Foster and husband Byron, Scranton, Tina Mattern, Blakely, great grandchildren; Kalani, Jaelynn, Neveah, Nakai and Naquan. Three siblings; Gloria Joyce, Robert Prislupsky and wife Jean, Taylor, David Prislupsky and wife Donna, Taylor, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by two daughters, Deborah Prislupsky, and infant Tina Marie.

A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 700 Oak Street, Taylor, by the Rev. Eduard Shestak, Pastor. Military Honors will follow the Liturgy. Internment will be private.  The viewing for family and friends will be on Friday, 4 to 7 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
