Kathryn “Kathy” Hughes, 62, of Scranton, died Friday, at Hospice of The Sacred Heart, Dunmore, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Her husband of 35 years is Eugene Hughes. Born in La Plata, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Gregory and Irene Borzemska Hryb. Kathy was a 1973 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, a member of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Kathy had been employed in the proof department of the Third National Bank and worked in the food service at West Scranton Intermediate School, up until her latest illness. Kathy was known for her caring and generous nature, and her love of all God’s creatures, especially cats. She is also survived by two children, Laura Hughes-Schubert and husband Paul Schubert, Camp Hill, and Christopher Hughes, Scranton, two brothers, Henry Kluznick and wife Jackie, Cincinnati, OH, and Roman Hryb, Westport, Indiana. A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, 430 N. 7th Avenue, Scranton, 18503, to be celebrated by the Rev. Myron Myronyuk, Pastor. Interment will be private. Viewing for family and friends will be on Thursday, 4 to 7 PM with a Panachyda Service at 6:45 p.m., in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton. In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William Street, Dunmore, PA 18510.
