Marianne Scanlan, 86 of Scranton, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. She was the wife of Edward J. Scanlan. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Ryan) Newton. Marianne was a graduate of Marywood Seminary and Keystone College. She had been employed by Dun and Bradstreet before retirement and was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. Marianne is survived by her husband of 63 years, Edward J., and their daughters, Molly Sardella and husband Renny, Downingtown, Louise McCormack and husband Brian, Scranton, Melissa Kaufman and husband Brian, Throop, Kate Verica and husband William, Plymouth Meeting. Nine grandchildren, Sara, Katie, Emily, Edward, Mae, Brian, Maria, Will, and Tommy, her sister, Noel Kuschke, NY, sisters in law, Connie Newton, Clarks Summit, and Karen von Kunes, Rhode Island, and Nancy Scanlan, Waverly. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Charles and Robert Newton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 30, 2023, by Marianne’s nephew Monsignor Joseph G. Quinn at 10am in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton. There will be a receiving line in church after the Mass. Private interment will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, West Scranton.
