Mary Plishka

Mary Plishka, 98, of Clarks Summit, fell asleep in the Lord at the home of her son, Richard, on Memorial Day morning with her beloved family at her side. She was the widow of the late John Plishka who passed away in 1997.  At the time of his passing, the couple were married 50 years.

Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Mary Hanusich Russin. Mary graduated from Dunmore High School, and as a housewife, dedicated her life to the care and nurturing of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Scranton.

Mary is survived by her sons, Joseph and wife, Deborah (Howarth), of  Baldwinsville, NY; Richard and wife, Paula Ann (Pendrak), of Clarks Summit, PA; Martin of Scottsdale, AZ; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Mary; her husband, John; and their son, Thomas who is survived by his wife, Denise (Muroski) of Moosic, PA. Mary also was preceded in death by siblings: her sister, Veronica Ball; and her four brothers, Michael, John, Andrew, and Joseph Russin.

The Divine Liturgy with the Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 7, at 10 am in St. Mary of the Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Linden Street at Mifflin Avenue, Scranton, by her grandson, the Rev. Fr. Richard Plishka. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, 4 to 6:45 pm, in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.  Parastas will begin at 6:45 pm.
