Michael P. Maruhnich, 81, of Scranton died Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center in Scranton. He was the widower of Roberta F. Barlik Maruhnich and the son of the late George and Anna Swetz Maruhnich. Michael was a 1960 graduate of Scranton Technical High School and retired as a production worker from Anemostat as a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 44. Michael honorably served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and was of the Catholic Faith. Michael is survived by four siblings, sisters Helen Fabiani, Falls Twp., Pauline Maruhnich, Scranton, Margie Champine, Scranton, and brother Frank Maruhnich, Hamden, CT., his caregivers, nieces Donna Weitz and Barbara Sick, and many other beloved nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by eight siblings, sisters Barbara Maruhnich, Ann Bartlett, Julia Drosinski, Mary Maruhnich, and Irene Maruhnich, brothers George Maruhnich, John Maruhnich and Joseph Maruhnich. A blessing service will be held in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue Scranton 18505, on Saturday at 10 am, officiated by the Rev. Deacon Ray Pieretti in the funeral home. The viewing for family and friends will be on Saturday from 9 am until time of service at 10 am. Interment will follow with Military Honors accorded by the Dickson City Veterans Honor Guard in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea. To honor the compassionate care given to Michael by the staff of the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made in Michael’s name to the Residents Welfare Fund, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, 401 Penn Avenue, Scranton, PA 18503.
