Richard Heier Sr.

Richard D. Heier Sr., 76, of Scranton, died Wednesday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His wife of 42 years is Deborah “Debbie” Kelesky Heier. Born in Scranton he is the son of Mary Lavelle Heier, Scranton and the late Alfred Heier. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Rich was a United States Navy Veteran having served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, retired from the Scranton Police Department after 25 years and then worked as a US Marshall. He was a member of Mary Mother of God Parish, FOP EB Jermyn Lodge 2, the Villa Capri Cruisers, a regular member of the Taurus Club, a social member of the Polish Club, a Life Member of American Legion Post 665 and a Life Member of the VFW Post 7251, Throop. Rich was a loving husband, proud father, grandfather, brother and a friend to many. He was a proud plank owner of the USS Kitty Hawk, and always looked forward to the warmer months for the car shows and cruiser events. He is also survived by one daughter, Kelly Heier, Scranton, two granddaughters, Kellie Nee and Lily Heier, one brother, Lt. Col David Heier; Ret. Army and wife Linda, TX, a sister in law, Teresa Pientack and husband Dave, Archbald, two brothers in-law, Walter Kelesky and wife Debbie, McClure, Michael Kelesky and fiancée Heather Uhrin, Scranton, numerous nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son, Army Captain; Richard D. Heier Jr. on December 26, 2017. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, for the compassionate care that they extended to Rich and his family. Funeral Services will begin on Monday, at 9:15, from the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Monday at 10 am in Holy Rosary Church, Mary Mother of God Parish, 316 William St., Scranton, PA 18508. Military Honors will be accorded after Mass. Interment will be private in Cathedral Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends will be on Sunday, 4 to 7 pm
