Theresa Maruhnich, 87 formerly of Dupont, died Monday, April 9, at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Born in Scranton, she was the wife of the late George Maruhnich who died in May of 2012 and was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Andrejack Yerke. Theresa was a 1949 graduate of Dupont High School, a member of St. Joseph Marello Parish and was a retired seamstress working in the local garment industry. She was an avid lover of steam engines throughout her life and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren who meant the world to her.
She is survived by three daughters, Georgette Lavelle (Peter), Avoca, Laura Kovacs (Stephen), Poughkeepsie, NY, Terry Maruhnich, Dupont, seven grandchildren, Lisa Durdan (Paul), Peter Lavelle (Alea), Jeffrey Lavelle, Stephanie Kovacs, Nick Kovacs, Chris Kovacs, Hannah Maruhnich, one great grandson, Paul Durdan, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by four siblings, Frances, William, Vera and Dorothy
Mass of Christian burial will held on Saturday at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston, PA 18640. Interment to follow at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Minooka section of Scranton. Viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday, 4 to 8 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
