Viewing for family and friends will be on Friday, 3 to 7 in the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am, by the Rev. Michael J. Kirwin, Ph.D., Pastor of St. John Vianney Parish, 704 Montdale Road, Scott Township, PA 18447.

Interment with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Commerce Drive, Scott Township.

Joseph J. Baigis, 79, of Scott Township, passed on Friday, April 1, 2022 at home with his family at his side. His loving wife of 58 years, is Janet (Stafursky) Baigis. Joseph was born in Throop on January 30, 1943, and was the son of the late Anthony and Barbara (Stefanik) Baigis. He was a graduate of Throop High School and worked as a Systems Engineer for many years at IBM. Joseph was a United States Air Force veteran serving with 1st Combat Evaluation Group at Mountain Home, Idaho. He was an active member of St. John Vianney Parish in Scott Township, as well as being a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus with Assembly 2659 serving as Faithful Navigator.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Janet, daughters; Michelle Shulde & fiancé Peter, Carbondale, Deborah Flint and husband, Dr. Laurence Flint, New Jersey, son; Joseph Baigis & wife April, Maryland, 5 grandchildren; Anthony & wife Annalisa, Nicole, Dr. Matthew Flint & wife Megan, James and Patrick; 4 great grandchildren; Giovanni, Luciana, Vincenzo and Grayson, Brothers; Thomas Baigis, Clarks Summit and Edward Baigis, Throop. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Anthony “Tony” Baigis. Also surviving are several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing for family and friends will be on Friday, 3 to 7 pm at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am, by the Rev. Michael J. Kirwin, Ph.D., Pastor of St. John Vianney Parish, 704 Montdale Road, Scott Township, PA 18447. Interment with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Commerce Drive, Scott Township. Those wishing to attend Mass are requested to go directly to church.
