Wilbur H. Gross, 83. A resident of the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, died Wednesday morning at the center. Born in Itaska, NY, he was the son of the late Fred and Mae Eggleston Gross. Educated in Chenango Forks, NY schools, he was an Army Veteran of The Korean War having served with the 21st Infantry and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Korean Service Medal with 5 bronze battle stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge and Good Conduct Medal. He was a Christian and had worked as a laborer in general construction to include the Interstate Highways of 81, 80, 380, and 84. He is survived by two daughters, Gail Burton, Reading, PA, Annette Rohmann, Windsor, NY, one son, Paul Gross, Dundee, NY, one sister, Barbara Reynolds, Castle Creek, NY, one brother, Merle Gross, Endicott, NY, 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Piave Gross and 9 siblings. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday from 12 noon until 1 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton. Military honors will follow at 1 pm. Inurnment will be private. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 pm in the funeral home.
