Mary Yvonne “Bonnie” Gavin, died Friday in the Jewish Home of Eastern PA. She was the wife of the late Eugene Gerard Gavin for over 50 years, who died on November 29, 2006. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Lorraine Buckley. Bonnie was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, the Valedictorian in St. Paul’s High School class of 1948, sang in the church choir for over 50 years, active in the altar and rosary society as well as volunteering in the school library. Although not perfect, she was a kind, generous and caring woman who would give you anything that she had to give, and had a lovely singing voice that could be heard all around the house. She is survived by her children, Jerry and wife De Gavin, Patrick Gavin, Ed Gavin and fiancée Patty Weber, Fran Gavin, Brian Gavin and husband Bill Slocum, Anne Viola, Dennis Gavin and wife Pam, Lucille Yurek and husband Chris, sisters, Annette Jenkins, Janice Anderson and husband Andy, 14 grandchildren, one great granddaughter, brother in law, Tom Campbell, sister in law, Millie Buckley, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by a still born son, Joseph, one son, Charles Gavin, one sister, Beverly Campbell and one brother, William Buckley. The family would like to thank the staff on the 2nd floor of the Jewish Home, for their kind and loving care of Mom. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:30 am, in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends will be on Tuesday, 4 to 8 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jewish Home of Eastern PA.
