Mary Miles Murphy, 74, of West Scranton, translated on April 22, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Reilly Miles. Her husband is Patrick Murphy. Mary graduated from South Scranton Central Catholic High School in 1966. Her family moved to New Jersey, and she worked with four family members at Bell Laboratories. She moved back to Scranton in 1968 and then moved to the Baltimore-Washington area in 1970, where she met her first husband, John Michael McKenzie. While there, she worked at John Hopkins University, the University of Maryland and Project on Equal Education Rights. She moved back to Scranton, worked at Ball Brokerage and the State Workmens Insurance Fund. She re-met the love of her life, Patrick, and shared 41 wonderful years of marriage with him. She said he was the wind beneath her wings.
She is survived by her husband Patrick, her brother Joe Miles, FL., And sisters; Rita Kulesa and Ellen Nagy, FL., her stepson Jim Murphy and wife Nancy, Bethlehem, step grandchildren, Casey and Quinn. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother John Miles, and her special cocker spaniel Katie. Mary loved anything having to do with numbers, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, (especially diagramless) and playing games on the computer. Her favorite time was spent playing canasta with her sister Ellen and cryptoquip with her sister Rita. Mary was always interested in religions, especially karma and reincarnation. She joined Eckankar, and said she finally found the answers to all her questions. In lieu of flowers Mary wishes that you do a good deed for someone. Viewing for family and friends will be on Thursday, 4 to 7 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton. Interment will be private.
