Daniel W. Strasburger

Daniel W. Strasburger, 67, of Waymart, passed away Friday, February 2nd, with his loving family at his bedside at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His wife of 42 years is Lucille “Lucy” Santarelli Strasburger. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Willard and Ann Ferke Strasburger. Dan was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and retired from Nivert Metal after a long career as a machinist and welder. Along with his wife Lucy, Dan is survived by their children, Branden Strasburger and wife Tanya, Duryea; Laura Aniska, Scranton; four grandchildren, Mason, Braelyn, Morgan, and Cayden; a sister, Diane Spencer, Scranton. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Aleah Strasburger, and a sister, Phyllis Merrigan. Dan was a hard working craftsman, who spent most of his time outdoors, enjoying nature, creating amazing woodwork and handmade furniture. He built stone walls and constructed waterfalls by hand. There was nothing he could not do, create, or make better. The only thing Dan couldn’t do was waste daylight. In his earlier years, Dan enjoyed skiing, ice-skating, kayaking, and fishing. His love for animals was profound, and rather than hunt the deer, the deer took refuge on his property, where he would feed them, often by hand. Dan kept a crystal clear pool and loved having his family up for a swim. Dan was a man who was satisfied by life’s simple pleasures, which always included an ice cold beer, a good set of suspenders, and a mediocre “Dad joke”. Dan left behind a legacy and countless memories for his family and friends to cherish forever. A Blessing Service will be held Thursday February 8th. Commence at 4 pm by the Rev. Fr. Jeffrey D. Tudgay, followed by visitation for family and friends 4:30 to 7 PM, in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton, Interment of cremains will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan’s name can be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411, or online to www.GriffinPondAnimalShelter.com
