Stephen A. “Stu” Stawinsky, 65, of North Scranton, passed on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after being stricken ill at home. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Jacob P. and Eleanor Weller Stawinsky. Stephen was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish. Stephen retired this past fall and always took pride in his career as a truck driver. He enjoyed Budweiser, Harley Davidson and Rock and Roll.
He is survived by his daughter, Stacey Thomas and husband, Russell J., Scranton, two grandchildren, Emily and Russell W., sisters; Deborh Beavers, Scranton, Diane Forsythe, NC, Mary Fuller and husband Earl, Scranton and brother, Jacob Stawinsky and wife Cheryl, Scranton, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Carmella Stawinsky, who passed April 20, 2024, and brother, David Stawinsky.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 10 am at Holy Rosary Church, Mary, Mother of God Parish, 316 William Street, Scranton, 18508. Viewing for family and friends will be from 9 am in the church until time of Mass at 10 am. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 111 State Route 435, Elmhurst, PA 18416. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made in Stephen’s name to Mary, Mother of God Parish. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, West Scranton.
