Ronald W. Godfrey Sr., 82,of Avoca, died Friday night at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital ER. He is survived by his wife Delores Chimelewski Godfrey. Born in Brewster, NY, he was a son of the late Raymond and Gladys Smalley Godfrey. A graduate of Brewster High School, he worked as a brakeman for the New York Central Railroad and retired from PG & W. He was a Korean War veteran and retired after 36 years from the 109th Infantry, National Guard, as a Sergeant First Class. He was a former member of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church and held Life Memberships with the VFW Post 4909 of Dupont, of which he was a Past Post Commander and the Am-Vets, Post 189. He is also survived by 1 son, Ronald W. Godfrey Jr. and wife Joan, Pittsburgh, 3 daughters, Mary Lees and husband James, Scranton, Ann Shields and husband Joseph, Scranton, Rhonda DeNunzio and husband Frank, Lake Ariel, 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 4 sisters, Ruth Roth, Marion Burdick, Dorothy Brady, all of Brewster, Lois Taylor, Danbury, CT, 1 brother, George Godfrey, Brewster, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Lesavage who died on April 7, 1984, 1 grand daughter, Elizabeth Shields, 2 brothers, Charles and Raymond Godfrey and 1 sister, Vivian Hyatt. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 am, in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton, 18505, to be conducted by Rev. Myron Myronyuk. Interment will be private. Veteran Services will be conducted at 6 pm Tuesday, by VFW Post 4909 and Am-Vets Post 189. Interment will be private. Military Honors will be accorded Wednesday after Funeral Services. Viewing for family and friends will be on Tuesday, 4 to 7 pm.
