Joseph A. (Ameika) Amejka, 95, died Tuesday night in the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Helen Wisneski Amejka. Educated in Scranton schools, he was a WW II Navy veteran serving in the North Atlantic aboard the USNASB Exeter. Joe retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad and ConRail working out of Philadelphia for many years. Joseph was everybody’s Uncle Joe. He is survived by his caregivers, great nephew, Joseph and Judy Sokoloski, Peckville, Great nieces, Henrietta Ameika, Frances Sokoloski, Valerie Ries, great great nephews, Leonard, Edward and Joseph Ameika, great great nieces Brandy Sokoloski, Tracy Sklareski, Mary Vitale, Christine Pallo, great great great nephew, Chase Joseph Sklareski. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Edward Ameika, and one sister, Helen Sokoloski. A special thank you is extended to the Clarks Summit Senior Living and the Gino Merli Veterans Center for the caring and loving care extended to Uncle Joe. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 am in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton, by the Rev. Fr. Sam J. Ferretti, Pastor, SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, West Scranton. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Taylor. Viewing for family and friends will be on Saturday morning, 9 am until time of Services.
