Ann Marie Gowarty, 76, of West Scranton, passed peacefully Monday night at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John Gowarty. Born in Peckville, she is the daughter of the late Van C. and Margaret McConnell Rought. Ann Marie was a member of the Basilica of St Ann Parish, a graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School, worked as a nurse’s aide and up to her passing worked as a jewelry associate at Boscov’s. She enjoyed cooking and baking delicious treats for her family and friends, especially her Christmas cookies, pizzelles and brownies. Surviving is her husband John, their daughter, Melanie Wallace and husband Shawn, their sons, Mark Gowarty and wife Kerri, Michael Gowarty and wife Heidi, all of Scranton, six grandchildren; Gillyan (Jason) Seymour, Wynter (Andrew) Wardach, Christopher Gowarty, Michael Gowarty, Nicholas Gowarty and Thomas Wallace, great grandchildren; Paisley and Maverick Seymour, a sister, Edith (William) McWatters, Georgia, a brother, Daniel Rought, Carbondale. Ann Marie was preceded in death by her parents, great granddaughter, Kennedy Seymour, sisters; Lois North, Eleanor Kerper, Margaret Jones, Carol Giorgio, brothers; Charles, George and William Rought, many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, at 10 AM in The Basilica of St. Ann, by the Rev. Fr. James Paisley. Interment will follow at SS Peter and Paul R.C. Cemetery, Taylor. Viewing for family and friends will be on Sunday, 2 to 5 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
