Captain Richard D. Heier Jr., 31 died Tuesday. Born in Scranton, he is the son of Richard D. Sr. and Deborah “Debbie” Kelesky Heier of Scranton and the fiancé of Kara Dolinish. Richard was a graduate of Bishop Hannon High School, received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Scranton and his Master’s Degree from Pennsylvania State University. During his assignments he had been the Company Commander of Headquarters Company, 55th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade and his current assignment was at Temple University ROTC Instructor, Pennsylvania Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion.
Also surviving are his daughter, Lily Heier, his sister, Kelly Heier, a niece, Kellie Nee and paternal grandmother, Mary Heier.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 3, at 10 am in Holy Rosary Church at Mary Mother of God Parish, 316 William Street, Scranton, 18508. Interment will be private. Military Honors will be accorded at the church after Mass. Viewing for family and friends will be on Tuesday, 4 to 8 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton. Anyone attending the Mass is kindly asked to go directly to the church.
