Deborah Evans, 70, of Scranton, passed on Friday, April 8, 2022 with her family at her side at Hospice of The Sacred Heart in patient facility, Dunmore. Her husband is John Evans. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William and Violet Wagner. Debbie was a 1969 graduate of Cathedral High School and Community Medical Center, School of Nursing. Deborah was a member of St. Paul’s Parish, and had been employed for over 30 years at Moses-Taylor Hospital as a nurse and retired from the Scranton School District as a paraprofessional.
She loved her children and grandchildren more than life itself. Her face smiled from ear to ear when she was with them.
She is survived by her husband, John, and they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past Christmas Eve; a daughter, Melissa Zawadzki and husband Jason, Scranton and son Michael Sofchak, Taylor. Four Grandchildren; Mia and Tanner Zawadzki, Devon O’Connor, Mikayla Sofchak, one brother; William Wagner and wife Patricia, Moscow, nieces and nephews, that she loved, just like as if they were her own children. Great nieces and great nephews and cousins, including her beloved cousin Laverne, who was the sister she never had and whom she cherished deeply as well. She was preceded in death by her daughter; Danielle Sofchak, who was waiting at the gates of heaven with their parents. The family would like to thank Dr. Lisa Thomas as well as Nicole for the care and love she received during her 18 month battle with Leukemia. The nurses at Hem/Onc, especially, Linda and Jenn that provided her the best care possible, the nurses at Hospice of the Sacred Heart inpatient unit were like family toward the end and will always hold a special place in our hearts for the wonderful care she received during her final days. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30 am at St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton, by Msgr. Neil Van Loon, Pastor. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends will be on Monday, 4 to 7 pm, at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton
