Dorothy G. Niemiec, 87, of West Scranton, passed Wednesday, December 4, 2023, at the Allied Hospice Center, Scranton. She was the widow of John F. Niemiec who passed on December 11, 2018 and the couple had been married for 56 years at the time of his death. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Frank Jr. and Josephine Koziol Janicki. Educated in West Scranton High School, she was a member of the former St. David’s Church Keyser Valley and is a member of St. Patrick’s Parish. Dorothy was a Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 32, a CCD instructor, a volunteer at church events and fund raisers at St. David’s Church.
She is survived by one son, John F. Niemiec Jr. and wife Renee, Scranton, two grandchildren; Jamie Shovestull and husband Donald, Colver, PA and Zachary Niemiec, Scranton, a great grandson; Wyatt Shovestull, one sister; Patricia Budzilek and husband Joseph, Dupont, numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, and two siblings, Frank Janicki III and Theresa Toczylowski. A Mass of Christian Burial for family and friends will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 10 at 10 am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 1605 Oram Street, Scranton, 18504 by the Rev. Fr. Richard Fox. Inurnment will follow at SS Peter and Paul R.C. Cemetery, Taylor.
