Edwin L. Tan, MD, passed peacefully at UPMC Presbyterian on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in Pittsburgh, PA at the age of 79. Edwin was born on October 20, 1944 to Perian and Judjuan Lim Tan in Jolo, Sulu, Philippines. He studied at UP College of Medicine in Quezon City, Philippines and earned a medical degree. Edwin completed psychiatry residencies in both the Philippines and United States before a long career of hospital, outpatient, and forensic psychiatry. In 1988, Edwin met his spouse Janet in Scranton. Edwin and Janet went on to have three children, Nicole, Marissa, and Nathaniel. Edwin worked in private practice up until his illness. He enjoyed telling funny stories, watching dinner theater with his family, keeping in touch with family, and staying up to date with current events.Edwin was predeceased by his parents, Perian and Judjuan, and his siblings, Helen Garcia, Alvin Tan, and Philip Tan. He is survived by his wife Janet, their children, Nathaniel Tan (Hollidaysburg), Nicole Tan and husband Adam Portier (Trappe), Marissa Tan and husband, Adam Sawyer (Baltimore, MD) and sisters, Evelyn Estrella and husband Rudy (Belleville, NJ), and Carol Que (Quezon City, Philippines). A graveside service was held on Monday, in Union Cemetery, Peckville, with services officiated by his brother in-law, Rev. Donald Snyder. Arrangements were under the care and direction of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, West Scranton.
