Eleanor Ragni

July 21, 2024

Eleanor Ragni, 92 years young of Scranton, peacefully passed away on Sunday at home. She was the widow of the late Eugene Ragni who passed away in 1987. Born in Peckville, the daughter of the late Simon and Nellie Popiwchak Stevensky, Eleanor attended Blakely High School and had been employed as an administrative associate for her husband. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and she cherished her bus trips and casino outings, always looking forward to a good meal. She was the heart of our family – our “granimal” – the most loving mother, grandmother and Nana. Her infectious laugh brightened our days, and her homemade raviolis and cappelletti soup brought us all together. Eleanor’s spirit, love and warmth will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her daughter in-law, Judy A. Ragni, Moosic; three grandchildren, Brenda Nudelman, Annapolis, MD, Robert V. Ragni, and Amy Gazoo and husband, Thomas, Moosic; three great grandchildren, Bella and Addy Nudelman, and Amelia Gazoo, her best friend; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved only son, Robert Ragni, sisters; Lorraine Ferelli, Sylvia Condida, and brother, Simon Stevensky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9;30 am, in Divine Mercy Parish at St. Joseph’s Church, 312 Davis Street, Scranton, by the Rev. Fr. Paul McDonnell,  Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum. Viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday, 5 to 8 pm at the Edward J.
