Esther Linko

Esther Rose Linko, 86 and a lifelong resident of the Bellevue section, died Friday peacefully at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. She was the wife of Joseph Linko, who passed away in August 2002. Their 66th wedding anniversary would have been on February 14, 2021.

Born on April 20, 1935 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Rose Polito-Trunzo. She was educated in the Scranton Public Schools. She retired as a seamstress from Triple A Trouser. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Esther was a member of St. Peter’s Cathedral where she attended mass regularly and watched the masses faithfully if she were unable to attend.

Her greatest passion in life was her faith in which carried her through the most difficult times in her life.

Esther enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for her family.

She cherished her family but most importantly, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Sofia and Vincenzo. She was blessed to be in their company as they brought so much joy to her life up until the very end.

Also surviving, are daughter Linda and son-in-law Frank Pirritano, Scranton, a son, Nicholas and daughter-in-law Allison Linko, Mount Cobb; Grandchildren, Joseph Pirritano, Jacksonville, Briann and husband, Anthony Siciliano, Scranton, Nicole Linko and Nicholas Linko; Two great grandchildren Sofia and Vincenzo Siciliano, Scranton; Two sisters Ann Davitt, Maryland, and Tomasina Abballe, Scranton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Peter, Serafino and James Trunzo and six sisters: Christina Trunzo, Mary Nerges, Rose Cimino, Regina Manci, Christina Burke and Yolanda Argenta.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the doctors, nurses and clinicians at Geisinger CMC; a thank you to Dr. Ferdinand J. Manahan; and a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore whom made her final days and journey to heaven very peaceful with all of the love and tenderness they had given to her.

Viewing for family and friends will be on Wednesday, 4 to 7 pm, in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 930 am by Msgr. Dale R. Rupert, Pastor of St. Peter’s Cathedral. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Oram Street Scranton.
