Ethel A. Neary of Clarks Summit passed on Monday night with her family at her side. She is the widow of the late Francis J. Neary who passed in 2002. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Alberta Locklin Frichtel. Ethel was a graduate of the former Scranton Central High School and retired as a supervisor from Romart Inc.
Ethel is survived by her children, John Morris (Sharon Perry) Pittsburgh, Jeremy Morris (Julie) Clarks Summit, Cheryl Colan (D. Trent Colan II) Clarks Summit, seven grandchildren, Hannah Martin (Kyle), Kristen Morris, Tori Morris, Halle Morris, Seth Colan, Trent Colan (Ashley), Jessie Colan, six great grandchildren, Lewis, Ramsey, Josh, Matt, Maya, Jace, six nieces and nephews, Anna, Chris and Jenna Bork, Bill, Teresa and Will Kalinich. Ethel was predeceased by her parents and husbands, William Heen, Francis J. Neary Jr, Charles J. Morris, and her sister Louise Rogan.
Ethel’s family would like to thank her long-term caregivers, Jeanne Jarrow, Carla Barney, Shakira Montague, Tara and Mecca Loughney, as well as the staff at Clarks Summit Senior Living, the Progressive Care Unit at Geisinger/CMC and Allied Hospice Center.
Ethel was very active in her community. She served on the Board of Trustees of the Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church (first female president); the Lions Club, District 14-H (elected as the first female District Governor in Pennsylvania); the Green Ridge Little League (girls’ softball coach and ran the concession stand); the Lackawanna County Republican Committee (vice chair); the Residents’ Association of Clark Summit Senior Living (president); and several other organizations. Ethel’s interests included ceramics (owned L & E Ceramics with her friend Lillian); sewing; maintaining the Gift Shop at Clark Summit Senior Living; playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday at 10 am in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Mifflin Avenue at Linden Street, Scranton, by the Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Martin, SJ, Pastor. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Minooka. There is no public viewing. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
