Eugene A. Korjeski

August 31, 2024

Eugene (Gene) A. Korjeski, 85 of Scranton, passed away on Saturday, August 31, at home with his loved ones at his side. He was the widower of Delores Castellano Korjeski, who passed away in 2006. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Martin and Anna Korjeski. Eugene was a 1956 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, a proud United States Navy veteran who served on the USS Saratoga as an RM2 radio operator, a lifelong member of St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church and a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, from which he proudly retired after 46 years of service.

Poppy, as he was affectionately known to his grandchildren, was the kindest man you would ever meet and also a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather who lived for his family. His wit and humor were truly unmatched, a trait he passed down to his children and grandchildren.  In addition to spending time with his family, he loved Sunday dinners and sitting on his front porch, talking to his neighbors who adored him.  He was a longtime baseball coach for Green Ridge Little League and continued coaching for several years after his sons finished playing. What brings the family peace is knowing he has been reunited with his high school sweetheart and love of his life. They are together again, walking the beach at Avalon, NJ, which was their favorite place to vacation.

He is survived by two sons, Gino and wife Kim, Archbald, Bob and wife Kim, Dupont, and three daughters, Karen Paciotti and husband Mike, Bethlehem, Lori Korjeski, Dickson City, and Kim Padden and husband Brian, Scranton, eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren in addition to two on the way, nieces and nephews. Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, parents and seven siblings, Martin, Joseph, John (Jack), Frank (Fritz), Robert, Annamae Gillon, and Mary Joyce.

The family would like to thank Dr. Melissa Bertha, Dr. Laura Virtue-Delayo, and Dr. Vitaly Geyfman for their exceptional care and kindness over the past several years.

Memorial contributions can be made in honor of his grandson Jacob Bell, who has autism, to Futures Community Support Services, 23 Main Street, Towanda, PA 18848.
