Florence J. Coleman, 92, a resident of West Scranton passed Sunday December 4th, at Allied Skilled Nursing Center. She was the widow of the late Joseph F. Coleman, her husband of 73 years who passed in February of 2021. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Chesik. Educated in Scranton schools, she was a member of St. Ann’s Basilica Parish and retired from Sauquoit Silk Mill as an inspector. Florence was an avid bird watcher, loved to watch for deer out of her window, and enjoyed a good garage sale and anything that had a rose.
She is survived by her son; Joseph M. Coleman and companion Pamela Huddy, Scranton and her daughter, Maryann DeStefano and husband Neil, Mechanicsburg, five grandchildren; Michael Coleman and wife, Nicole, Sarah Coleman MD, and companion, Ted Ives, Patrick DeStefano, Christopher DeStefano, Maria DeStefano and two great grandchildren, Gavin and Cecelia Coleman, her sister, Carol Lesh, FL nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six siblings; Joseph, Robert, Daniel and Donald Chesik, Eleanor Claflin, Evelyn Ambrose and daughter in-law Alice Reap Coleman. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 9 at the Basilica of St. Ann, 11:30 am. Viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday, 4 to 7 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, Scranton.
