Francis (Frank) Yevitz, 82, of Spring Brook Twp., passed away Oct. 2, 2022, at Allied Rehabilitation after a long illness. His wife of 55 years is Evelyn Sanko Yevitz.
Born in 1940 in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Sepelak Yevitz. Frank was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and earned a Bachelor of
Science degree from the University of Scranton.
Frank was employed as a journeyman bookbinder at Haddon Craftsmen before starting his own title abstract company. He was a 20-year member of the 109th Infantry, 25th Division, of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He attained the rank of major and was company commander for eight years, Frank received many awards for expert marksmanship.
A devoted member of St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, in Scranton, he was president of its Holy Name Society and chairman of its annual picnic for over 10 years each. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6050 where served as deputy grand knight, grand knight and treasurer. He attained the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree and was its faithful navigator. He was also a proud Eagle Scout of Troop 78, Scranton, Pa.
In addition to his wife, Evelyn, Francis is survived by his son, Christopher, of Spring Brook Twp.; daughter, Sherri Eble; son-in-law, Matthew Eble; grandsons, Benjamin and Nathaniel, of Covington Twp.; brother, Nicholas and wife, Sally Yevitz, Scranton, Pa.; nieces and nephews; and his beloved beagle, Duke.
Frank was interred at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in October with military honors. Arrangements were made by the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Ave., West Scranton.
A Celebration of Life Liturgy will be held July 8, 2023, at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 310 Broadway, Scranton, Pa. For those who can not attend the Liturgy, there will be a visitation and dinner in the church hall from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church.
