Geraldine O’Rose, 85, of Silver Spring, MD, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on October 23, 2017. Geraldine was born and raised in Scranton, PA, daughter of the late John and Helen Kapacs Orose, the eldest of 3 siblings, and later moved to Washington, D.C., to pursue her illustrious career with the United States Federal government as a Budget office manager for the National Institute of Health. She was an industrious individual and cared deeply for family and friends. During her long and successful career, she took the time to travel yearly to exotic places such as South America, Latin America, Europe and Russia. Many of those years she traveled with her pre-deceased sister, Betty, and there are many fond family memories of those sisterly vacations. During her retirement years, she continued to travel within the U.S. and abroad and, when at home, she enjoyed playing bridge and being active.
Geraldine is survived by her 2 nieces and 2 nephews: Mary Ann Hubbard, California; Sandra Thubborn, Taylor, PA; John Orose, Idaho; and Paul Orose, Scranton, PA; sister-in-law Audrey Orose; and many cousins. Geraldine was pre-deceased by one brother, John Orose, and one sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Orose.
The family will celebrate her life with a Memorial Divine Liturgy to be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 310 Broadway Street, Scranton, PA. Arrangements under the care and direction of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, West Scranton.
