Isabel Gahwiler

Isabel Gahwiler, of Scranton, passed away on Sunday at Allied Services Hospice.  Last August she entered Allied Terrace for assisted living.  Before passing away, she was also a patient in Allied Rehab Hospital as well as Allied Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  While there are too many people to thank individually, the family would like to thank the entire staff of Allied Services for their wonderful care, kindness, and professionalism in a very compassionate manner.  Her former husband, Charles Gahwiler, died in 1990.  Born in Dunmore, she is the daughter of the late Peter and Alice Mancuso DeNucci. Isabel was the third in her graduating class at Dunmore High School, was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, and worked in the bookbinding department of the former Haddon Craftsmen.  She volunteered many hours at the church and always enjoyed going to the casinos. She is survived by two sons, Charles Gahwiler and wife, Margaret (Peggy), FL, and Robert Gahwiler and wife Eloise, Scranton, and one daughter, Alice Lord and husband, Thomas, Scranton.  Six grandchildren; Kristin Gahwiler, Philadelphia, Karin Gahwiler Kelly and husband Thomas, Drexel Hill, Jennifer Gahwiler Bartell and husband Kevin, Clarks Summit, Robert Gahwiler Jr., Scranton, Kyle Lord, Philadelphia, and Jared Lord and wife Amber, Exeter.   Eight great grandchildren; Clare and Brigid Kelly, Emily, Lauren, Lindsey and Erin Bartell, Lyla and Eva Lord.  Four siblings; Josephine Coluccio, FL, Salvatore DeNucci, Dunmore, Angie Butler, Dunmore and Joan DeNucci, Dunmore.  She was also preceded in death by six siblings; Carmella Lush, Frank DeNucci, James DeNucci, Phillip DeNucci, Lucy DeNucci and Ralph DeNucci. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in The Church of the Immaculate Conception.   Isabel’s family will receive friends at Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton, PA 18510 on Saturday from 9 a.m. till time of Mass at 10 a.m.  There are no calling hours at the funeral home.  Arrangements under the care of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allied Services Hospice, 100 Abington Executive Park, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.

Isabel’s family will receive friends at Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton, PA 18510 on Saturday from 9 a.m. till time of Mass at 10 a.m.  There are no calling hours at the funeral home.
