John “Jack” “Papa” Michael Korgeski, 84, of Taylor, passed away on March 9, 2018, at Moses Taylor Hospital. His wife of 58 years is Catherine (Deininger) Korgeski.
Born in the “Flats section” of Scranton, he was the son of the late Martin and Anna (Hrinda) Korgeski. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, he had been employed by PennDot and retired from the Clarks Summit State Hospital. He was a member of St. Stanislaus PNC Cathedral.
He joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and served on the destroyer USS Sierra AD-18 as a seaman gunnery second class for four years. He was a life member of the Theodore J. Wint, VFW Post 25, Scranton.
He will be remembered best for the love he bestowed to his wife and three children and especially for “the house that Jack built” for them, his shiny car, and the many wonderful family vacations.
He is also survived by son, John W. Korgeski and wife, Kim, Scranton; daughter, Catherine Peetros and husband, Nick, Barto; four grandchildren; and brother, Eugene Korjeski, Scranton.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Ann Korgeski, who passed at age 44 in 2015; and six siblings.
Funeral services were held on March 14, 2018, officiated by the Rev. Janusz Lucarz. Interment with U.S. Navy Honors were accorded in St. Stanislaus PNC Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Ave., West Scranton.
