John Sporko

John T. Sporko, 100, of West Scranton, died Saturday, at the Green Ridge Health Care Center, His wife of 67 years, Stella M. Gutowski Sporko, died July 9, 2008. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Boleslaw and Sophie Niekiewicz Sporko. Educated in Scranton schools, he was an Army veteran of WW II having served at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, a lifelong member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, West Scranton, the Kosciuszko American Legion Post, a 4th Degree Knight at St. Frances Cabrini Council, Bridgeport, Ct. and retired as a high explosives supervisor for Remington Arms. He is survived by two sons, John Sporko and wife Gladys, Milford, CT., Richard Sporko and wife Laurene, Huntington, CT., two grandsons, Anthony Sporko and James Sporko and wife Theresa, one brother, Edward Sporko, Scranton, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Bernard, Chester, Frank, Leo, and Joseph Sporko. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 9:30 am in SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, West Locust Street, Scranton, by the Rev. Fr. Sam J. Ferretti, Pastor. Interment will follow with Military Honors in the parish cemetery, Taylor. Viewing for family and friends will be on Wednesday, 5 to 8 pm, in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton
