Joseph Youshock, 91, a resident of the Gino Merli Veterans Center, formerly of Jessup, passed away Sunday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife of 43 years, Victoria Ambrozevitch Youshock, died in 1995. Born on May 18, 1925 in Jessup, he was the son of the late John and Susan Lapay Youshock. Educated in Jessup schools, he was a proud WW II Navy veteran having served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre of Operations aboard the USS Philadelphia, CL-41, known as the “Galloping Ghost of the Sicilian Coast”. He was the recipient of a GED Diploma from the Valley View School District and was immensely proud of the honor given to him when he received his high school diploma after so many years. Joseph was a life member of VFW Post 7963 in Eynon and a member of Mary Mother of God Parish, North Scranton. Before retirement he worked as a coal miner until the local mines closed and then finished his working career at the Chamberlain Corporation. He was a hard working, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, as well as watching the NY Yankees and NY Giants. He loved his Tuesday rides with his brother Paul, going to visit their sister Susan and her husband Mario at Eagle Lake. He is survived by one son, Joseph Edward Youshock and wife, Laurie, Jessup, one daughter, Mary Ann Lydon and husband Jerry, Scranton, eight grandchildren, Jolie, Cody, Eric, Adam, Bethany Youshock, Jerry Lydon and wife Tanya, Amy Lydon Evans, Melissa Lydon, four great grandchildren, Brady, Anthony, Colby and Noah Jay. One sister, Susan Noverini and husband Mario, Fort Pierce, FL and daughter inlaw Wendy Youshock Wassell, Scranton. He was also predeceased by one son, Richard Youshock, five siblings, Paul, John, Michael, Helen and Mary Youshock. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 10 am in Mary Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William Street, Scranton, PA 18505. Joe’s family would like to thank the Gino Merli staff for the love and care given to Joe over the many years. Interment will be private in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Morgan Highway. The family will receive friends at the church, from 9 am until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions are preferred to the Gino Merli Veterans Center, 401 Penn Avenue, Scranton, PA 18503. Full Military Honors will be accorded after Mass.
