Josephine Orzel

Josephine Ann Orzel, 87, of West Scranton, passed away on January 12, at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, following a courageous battle with cancer. Josephine was born on September 16, 1933 to the late Peter and Loretta Stasits in Scranton, where she lived her entire life. She married the late Walter Orzel in 1955 and were married 59 years at the time of her beloved Walter’s passing and were blessed with three children. Josephine worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry for many years before retiring to spend more time with her family. She was an avid gardener, and also enjoyed spending time at the West Scranton Senior Center and taking bus trips with her friends. She had a sharp sense of humor and a unique and infectious laugh. She cherished her faith and was a parishioner of SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by two sons, Mark P. Orzel and wife Carolyn, Binghamton, NY, and Brian P. Orzel and wife Robyn, Vero Beach, FL, three grandchildren; Andrew Orzel and wife Natasha, Easton, Sara Orzel, Easton and Ian Orzel, Vero Beach, FL, one sister; Loretta Gerrity and husband Thomas, Scranton, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and her beloved husband Walter (2014), she was also predeceased by one daughter Cindy Orzel (2012) and three sisters; Geraldine Hafner, Maryanne Klebon and Pauline Kotchick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Sam J. Ferretti, Pastor, SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 1309 West Locust Street, West Scranton, on Tuesday at 10 am. Livestreaming of the Mass will be available on the funeral home Facebook page. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, West Scranton. There are no calling hours at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the direction and care of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Sam J. Ferretti, Pastor, SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 1309 West Locust Street, West Scranton, on Tuesday at 10 am.
