Linda M. Cabets, 67, peacefully passed away April 8, 2018 at her home in Scranton.
Born in Scranton, she was the dear daughter of the late Harold and Ruth Tomasofsky. She was a 1968 graduate of West Scranton High School. She had recently retired from St. Joseph Center, where she had worked as a Direct Service Professional for many years. Linda would often discuss her day’s work with those close to her, always warmly referring to the residents as, “my kids.” She loved and cared for them as if they were her own children.
She treasured attending Saturday evening mass with her sister at St. Patrick’s Parish. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and bargain hunting. She cherished sitting with her grandchildren and inventing new art projects and would teach them to sew and braid. She would always surprise her loved ones with her deal of the day- whether it was fun socks for her grandkids, onions for a meal or bones for her granddogs. Even while gardening, she would think of others by planting a rosebush for each of her grandchildren or tending to the family gravesite. She will be remembered for her generous heart, she was always giving to others.
She is survived by three sons, James (Belinda) Cabets, Midland, MI; Scott (Lisa) Cabets, Archbald; Mark (Nadine) Cabets Scranton; three grandchildren, Ella Cabets, Jack Cabets, and Elizabeth Cabets. “Grandmother” was a role she extended to her step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Linda is also survived by three sisters, Sharon Kuduk, Jessup; Madlyn (Michael) Lavelle, TX; Stella (Randall) Kasorek, Scranton; three brothers, Harold (Ellamay) Tomasofsky, Endicott, NY; Patrick Coyne, Pittston; Lee Schmidt, Scranton; sister-in law Diana Schmidt, Scranton and her former husband, James J. Cabets, Sr. S. Abington Twp. and cousins. Linda was also preceded in death by her son, Jason F. Cabets.
