Marie L. Mann, 93, of Scranton, passed Wednesday evening at the home of her daughter Nancy and son in law Steve, where she had been receiving personal care during her illness. Her husband of 41 years, Francis Mann, passed on March 17, 2002. Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late John and Nancy Schultz. Educated in Scranton Schools, she was a retired seamstress, having worked in the local garment industry. Marie was a member of Holy Rosary Church at Mary, Mother of God Parish and the ILGWU.

Marie was best known for her love of God and her love of people.  In 2003, until the time of her death, she was the point of contact for the church prayer ministry and received a Parish Service award for her lifelong service. She was also a money counter for the offering and a member of the choir.

At age 80, Marie joined the Silver Sneakers program and discovered her “fountain of youth.”  She attended classes all the way up until shortly before her death, instructed by her good friend, Pat Barnes, whom she loved.  Her devoted daughter, Lorrie, and her faithful friend, Maria, would take her to classes on a regular basis, since Marie never drove, and for a woman who never drove, she had quite the social life.   Her church family and her gym family were very important to her.  Marie’s signature trademark was handing out candy to whomever served her in any fashion as a small token of her appreciation.

Marie loved her family and was especially proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters; Nancy Leschinsky and husband Stephen, Old Forge, Lorrie Mann, Scranton, two grandsons, Carl Heffner and wife Kim, Nicholas Chimenti, four great grandchildren; Skyler, Logan, Hunter, and Amina, two step granddaughters; Candace and Brooke, five great step grandchildren; Rhilynd, Johnny, Iyla, Lilliana and Vienna.  She is also survived by her beloved dog, Dakota, who kept her company for the last 12 years.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Candace and Brooke Leschinsky and Debbie Johnson for their help in caring for Marie in her last days and to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their caring assistance in this very heart wrenching process.  As per her request, Marie would like to thank God for all the beautiful people He put in her life and asked that we would love one another as He has loved us.

She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Robert.
