Mary A. Kempa, 88, of the Lincoln Heights section of Taylor, passed on Monday, December 13, 2021 at home. Her husband of 58 years, Theodore Kempa, passed on May 15, 2014. Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Grajcar. Mary was a 1951 graduate of West Scranton High School and a member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Scranton. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who was always there for her family’s needs before her own. She loved spending time with her family especially taking her grandchildren for walks and trips to McDonald’s. She is survived by two sons, Theodore Jr. and wife Shelly, Taylor, Paul and wife Andrea, Jessup, one daughter, Kathy Kishel and husband Steve, Taylor, nine grandchildren; Steve Kishel and wife Ashlei, Jennifer Schuback and husband Chris, Erin Beaumont and companion Brandon Heller, Teddy Kempa and wife Stephanie, Taylor Kempa and wife Becky, Troy Kempa and fiancé Kimberly Keller, Kayleigh, Amanda Santarsiero and husband Frank, and Emily Kempa and fiancé John Epp, eight great grandchildren; Alexis, Angelina, Christopher, Jackson, Sydney, Ayla, Aubrey and Ted IV. Mary was predeceased by her parents and brother, John Grajcar. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 21, at 9:30 am, by the Rev. Sam J. Ferretti, Pastor, in SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 1309 West Locust Street, Scranton. Inurnment will follow in the parish cemetery, Taylor. Calling hours will be on Monday, 5 to 8 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue West Scranton. The family kindly requests that face masks be worn for calling hours and at Mass.
