Paul J. Ackroyd, 85, of Scranton, passed on Sunday at the Allied Hospice Center. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Rudy and Alice Ackroyd. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Fahey Ackroyd, who passed on April 13, 2013, and by an infant daughter, Cherly. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps during the Cold War. Paul retired from Harper Collins, was a former member of The NE Detachment Marine Corps League, and enjoyed sitting on the porch talking to family, friends and neighbors.
Paul is survived by one daughter Michelle Ackroyd, Scranton, one son, Paul J. Ackroyd Jr. and wife Shannon, Archbald, one sister, Francis Jeffers, one brother, Brother Joseph Ackroyd, one grandson, Brayden Ackroyd, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 31 at 10am at St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Ave, Scranton 18509. Calling hours will be in the church from 9 am until time of Mass. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, with Military Honors accorded. Arrangements are under the care of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
