Richard R. Capwell, of Dickson City, beloved father and a proud Army veteran, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on April 11 at Abington Manor. Rich was born in Scranton, November 21, 1948, to John Capwell and Marie Holden Capwell. Rich served his country with honor and dedication in the US Army during the Vietnam war. He worked for over 30 years as a splicing technician for Verizon until he retired. He was a loving father, and grandfather, known for his strong work ethic and kind heart. Rich was a member of the American Legion post 665 in Dickson City as the Commander and held additional offices, was a member of the VFW post 5937 and served as commander and additional offices as well as serving as Co-Commander of the Dickson City Veterans Honor Guard for 16 years, always going above and beyond for all veterans. Rich enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Surviving is his son, Michael Capwell, Jessup, daughter, Julie Springer, TN, six grandchildren, one great grandson, his brother, Edward Capwell and wife Kathy, Scranton and companion of 11 years, Dolores Prynkiewicz, Dickson City. He was preceded in death by his brother Jack Capwell. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 21, 10 to 11 am, in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton, with Services at 11 am officiated by the Rev. Dr. Elliott Cooke, Pastor of Jackson Street Baptist Church, West Scranton.
