Rosanne M. Smith, of West Scranton, a beautiful wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and treasured aunt, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, at the age of 68. Her life was a testament to unconditional love, strength, and a deep devotion to family.
Born on February 23, 1957, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Rosanne grew up with a warm heart and a generous spirit. She carried those qualities with her throughout her life, touching the hearts of everyone she met. She was the kind of woman who made people feel at home with every smile and whose love could be felt in everything she did.
Though Rosanne found joy in many things— riding around in the Corvette, Sunday ice creams, baking, and being poolside, it was in her role as Grandma Ro that she found her true calling. Her grandchildren were the center of her world. From baking cookies together in her cozy kitchen to cheering them on from the sidelines, Rosanne was always there—present, patient, and full of love.
Rosanne leaves behind a family who adored her: her loving husband of 47 years, Kevin; son, Kevin and wife, Melissa; daughter Jillian DeSarno and husband Philip, both of Clarks Summit; Her world – her grandchildren: Madison, Paige, & Sadie Smith; Carter & Kylie DeSarno; In addition, niece, Cecelia Rose Mellen – who will forever carry her memory in their hearts and her siblings; Margaret “Peggy” Howarth and husband Roy, Joseph Mellen and wife Cynde, Steven Mellen and wife Lynne, Thomas Mellen and sister in-law Patricia Mellen.
Rosanne was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Rose Ferguson Mellen and her brother Paul Mellen.
Rosanne Smith lived a life full of love, life and laughter. She taught us that the smallest moments often matter the most, and that family—especially the little ones—are life’s greatest treasure.
Her love was her legacy, and it will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Rosanne’s life will be held for family and friends, on Monday, 11 am until 1:30 pm with Services at 1:30 pm, in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
