Wendell A. Beppler Sr., 82, of Scranton, passed away surrounded by his family Tuesday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His wife, Helen F. Beppler died on January 5, 2015. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Burson and Mabel Brittain Beppler. He was a 1953 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and received an associates degree in Computer Technology from the University of Scranton. He was an Army veteran and retired as a Sgt. First Class from the Army and the Army Active Reserve, after 37 years of service. He was a Desert Storm Veteran and had been awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation, Southwest Asia Service Medals and numerous other ribbon awards. In his working career, Wendell was a printer for 30 years for the International Salt Company, he owned and operated the Four-Way Press Co. He was co-owner of Helens Candle Boutique, was an instructor for Fortis and worked security for the Krayer Detective Agency. Wendell was a member of the former Myrtle Street U.M.C., the Northeast Retired Military Assoc., the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, Keystone Citizens Band Radio Club and VFW Post 3474, Dunmore and had been a school crossing guard and a mentor for Junior Achievement. He was also a Eagle Scout Commissioner and Mentor, a Scout leader for Troop 12, Cub Pack 12, Explorer Post 79 and a Group Leader of Boy Scout Troop 16. He is survived by one son, Wendell A. Beppler Jr., Lancaster, three daughters, Susan H. Ort and husband David, Dunmore, Cheryl A. Kundla and husband John, Scranton, Lisa A. Swartz and husband R. Scott, Scranton, five grandsons, four granddaughters, one brother, Burson Beppler, Scranton, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one son, Albert Allan Beppler. Funeral services will begin on Monday at 9:15 am, from the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton, with Services at 10 am at the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 712 Linden Street, Scranton with the Rev. Mike Bealla officiating. Interment will full Army Military Honors will follow at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Elmhurst. Viewing for family and friends will be on Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 till 9 pm.
